McIntosh County is located in the southeastern part of the great state of Oklahoma. Created at the time of Oklahoma's statehood in 1907, the county is named after Creek Indian Chief William McIntosh. Spanning over an area of 712 square miles, its county seat is Eufaula.

The history of McIntosh County is deeply rooted in the Creek and Seminole tribes, which were relocated to the Indian Territory after the Treaty of Indian Springs in 1825. The tribe was forcibly removed during the tragic event known as the Trail of Tears in the 1830s. Due to the Dawes Act of 1887, which distributed tribal land to individual members, land allotments allowed the area to grow, with settlements and farms springing up across the county.

The development of railroads and the introduction of coal mining and agriculture also contributed to the growth and economy of the county. Eufaula, the county seat, served as an important transportation and trade center.

One fun fact about McIntosh County is that it is home to the Eufaula Dam, which was completed in 1964 on the Canadian River. This dam created Lake Eufaula, also known as the "Gentle Giant," which is the largest-capacity lake in Oklahoma, boasting 600 miles of shoreline and providing opportunities for boating, fishing, and other recreational activities. The area surrounding Lake Eufaula now hosts numerous parks, marinas, and campgrounds, making it a popular tourist destination.
