Lincoln County is a picturesque and historically rich region located along the central coast of the great state of Oregon. Established on February 20, 1893, Lincoln County was formed from portions of Benton and Polk Counties. It was named in honor of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States.

The area's history dates back much further than the establishment of the county itself. The Indigenous peoples, such as the Alsea, Siletz, and Yaquina tribes, inhabited the region for thousands of years before the arrival of European explorers. The first recorded exploration by Europeans was in 1778, by British Captain James Cook.

In the 1850s, a series of land treaties and executive orders established the Siletz Reservation, which consolidated various tribes in western Oregon. The city of Newport, founded in 1882 and regarded as Lincoln's county seat since 1952, is known for its rich maritime history and beautiful coastal scenery.

Logging and fishing were the mainstay of Lincoln County's economy in the early days, with several sawmills scattered throughout the region in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, Lincoln County's economy is mainly driven by tourism, with spectacular attractions like the Oregon Coast Aquarium, beautiful sandy beaches, various state parks, and lively festivals drawing visitors from around the world.

Fun Fact: The iconic Devil's Punchbowl State Natural Area, located in Otter Rock, is a unique geological formation and popular tourist attraction in Lincoln County. The bowl-shaped rock formation was created by the collapse of two sea caves over countless years and is a wave-powered spectacle during high tide and stormy weather.
