Huntingdon County, located in the great state of Pennsylvania, was created on September 20, 1787, from part of Bedford County. Positioned in the central region of the state, it is named after Selina Hastings, Countess of Huntingdon, an English noblewoman who was a patron for the religious leader George Whitefield.

The county is known for its scenic beauty and boasts a rich history, comprising various industries, including agriculture, iron manufacturing, and transportation. The Juniata River, which flows through Huntingdon County, played an essential part in transportation during the 19th century by connecting it to the Pennsylvania Canal system - a critical means of trade.

The county seat, also named Huntingdon, was established in 1767 by Rev. Dr. William Smith, and it became a significant transportation hub as it was located on the route of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Interestingly, the oldest continually operated bookstore in Pennsylvania, Hall's Mill Covered Bridge, is situated in the heart of Huntingdon County. Established in 1802, it showcases the county's rich historical elements.

One fun fact about Huntingdon County is that it is home to the beautiful Raystown Lake, Pennsylvania's largest man-made lake, built in 1973 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers. This lake is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy boating, fishing, camping, and hiking, and it annually attracts more than a million visitors, making it an essential source of revenue for the area.
