Edgefield County is located in the great state of South Carolina and has a rich historical background. Established in 1785, it was one of the original counties in the state, formed from a portion of the sprawling Ninety-Six District. It covers an area of approximately 507 square miles in the western part of South Carolina, bordering Georgia to the west.

Edgefield County played a significant role during the American Revolutionary War, hosting several skirmishes and battles within its borders, including the Battle of Musgrove's Mill in 1780. Additionally, during the Civil War, it was the site of several Confederate training camps and hospitals.

The region is known for its production of Edgefield pottery, a distinctive type of alkaline-glazed stoneware that was prevalent in the area during the 19th century. This earthenware became popular because of its unique glazes and skilled craftsmanship, which drew artisans and collectors to the region.
