Spink County, South Dakota, is located in the northeastern part of the state and was founded in 1883. The county was named in honor of S.D. Spink, a prominent early settler and politician who was appointed as the first Attorney General of the Dakota Territory in the United States. The county seat is Redfield, which was named after another influential individual, J.B. Redfield, who gained recognition as a strong advocate for the building of the Chicago and Northwestern Railways in the region.

With a focus on agriculture and livestock, the fertile lands of Spink County produce corn, soybeans, wheat, and oats. The livestock industry is dominated by cattle and hog farming. Given its rural nature, Spink County became the site for a significant agricultural innovation. In 1908, it became the birthplace of the first Farmers' Cooperative Elevator in South Dakota, located in the town of Tulare, which marked a major shift in farmers' control over their produce.

A fun fact about Spink County is that it is home to the "World's Largest Pheasant": a fiberglass sculpture that stands 28 feet tall and 40 feet long, located in the city of Huron. This colorful attraction represents Spink County's enthusiasm for pheasant hunting, a popular activity during the hunting season.
