Henry County, located in the northwestern part of Tennessee, is steeped in history dating back to when it was first created in 1821. Named in honor of the Revolutionary War patriot and orator, Patrick Henry, this region played a significant role in the antebellum period as a hub for agriculture and trade along the Tennessee River during the 19th century.

The county seat, Paris, was established in the same year and incorporated in 1823. Paris is most famous for its 60-foot tall replica of the Eiffel Tower, constructed in 1993 as a symbol of friendship between Paris, Tennessee, and Paris, France - a fun and quirky sight to see in this part of the USA.

Henry County was also an important site during the American Civil War. In February 1862, Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest led his troops through the region as they chased the Union force led by General Ulysses S. Grant. Though Henry County was predominantly pro-Confederate, it did endure the effects of Union occupation for periods during the war.

Post-war, the county shifted from a plantation-based economy to a more diversified one, with agriculture, industry, and commerce supporting its growth. Today, Henry County is known for its scenic beauty, rich farmlands, and its popular recreational destination - the Land Between the Lakes, located to the east of the county.

In summary, Henry County, Tennessee holds historical significance dating back to the early 19th century and offers a blend of natural beauty, culture, and charming landmarks like the replica Eiffel Tower in its county seat, Paris.
