Moore County, in the great state of Tennessee, was established on December 17, 1871. It was named after General William Moore, an early settler, Revolutionary War officer, and Tennessee state legislator. The county was formed from parts of Lincoln, Bedford, and Franklin counties as these territories experienced growth and development during the nineteenth century. With an area of approximately 130 square miles, Moore County is one of the smallest counties in Tennessee.

The county seat, Lynchburg, located in the southern middle region of the state, is the center of many significant events and cultural heritage. A small town with a population of a little over 6,000, it was founded in the early 19th century and named after its founder, Thomas Lynch.

Fun fact: Moore County is famously known as the home of Jack Daniel's, the world's best-selling whiskey brand. Jack Daniel's Distillery, established in 1866 by Jasper "Jack" Newton Daniel, has been important not only in shaping the history and economy of the county, but also in influencing the global whiskey market. The distillery is the oldest registered distillery in the United States, and it attracts thousands of tourists each year, contributing to the local economy. Interestingly, Moore County, including Lynchburg, is a dry county, which means that the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited within its limits.
