Bastrop County is a county located in the central part of the state of Texas, USA. It was established in 1836 and was named after Felipe Enrique Neri, Baron de Bastrop, who was an early Dutch settler in Texas. The county's history is closely tied to the development of the region's agriculture and industry.

The area that is now Bastrop County was once inhabited by various Native American tribes, including the Tonkawa and the Karankawa. In the 19th century, European-American settlers began to arrive in the area, drawn by the opportunities for farming, ranching, and timber.

Bastrop County is home to the largest loblolly pine forest in Texas. The Lost Pines Forest, which covers over 13,000 acres of land, is a unique ecosystem that is home to a variety of plant and animal species. The forest was once much larger than it is today, but a series of devastating wildfires in the early 2010s destroyed thousands of acres of trees. Today, efforts are underway to restore the forest and protect it for future generations to enjoy. Visitors can hike, bike, and explore the forest on guided tours and learn about its rich natural history.
