DeWitt County is located in the southeastern region of the great state of Texas. The county, originally part of the Victoria and Goliad municipalities, was established in 1846, and is named after Green DeWitt, an early colonizer and the founder of the DeWitt Colony. The area has a rich history involving Native American tribes, Spanish colonization, and Mexican rule before ultimately joining the United States as a result of the Texas Revolution.

During the 19th century, settlements began to grow along with agricultural and livestock development. The region's economy saw a significant shift in the 1920s with the discovery of oil in the county, leading to rapid growth and development.

One fun fact about DeWitt County is that, as a key part of the Texas Revolution against Mexican rule in the early 19th century, several significant battles and skirmishes took place within its boundaries, such as the Battle of Coleto Creek and the Goliad Massacre. Today, historical sites and monuments dedicated to these events can be visited and explored throughout the county.
