Haskell County, located in the great state of Texas, was established on February 1, 1858, and was named in honor of Charles Ready Haskell, a soldier killed during the Texas Revolution. The county covers an area of about 910 square miles and is situated in the northwestern part of Texas, sitting within the Rolling Plains region of the state.

Initially, Native American tribes like the Comanche and Kiowa were present in the region. Following the Texas Revolution, an 1872 military expedition led to the construction of forts that eventually supported the development of ranching in Haskell County. The first permanent settlement was established in 1885 by W. H. Tucker. Haskell, the county seat, was founded in 1885 when the county was organized, and is located in the center of the county.

Ranching and agriculture have been the mainstay of Haskell County's economy. In 1906, the railroad made its way to the county, leading to a boom in population and the establishment of more towns. Early settlers primarily focused on cattle and sheep ranching, but the introduction of cotton in the early 20th century attracted many more settlers and diversified the economy. Cotton farming and cattle ranching continue to be the backbone of the county's economy.

A fun fact about Haskell County is that it is home to the "Painted Churches of Texas," a collection of beautiful and historically significant churches that were originally built by German and Czech immigrants. Their interiors are adorned with intricate paintings and decorative works of art, which serve as a testament to the skilled craftsmanship and dedication of the early settlers.
