Schleicher County, located in the great state of Texas, was officially established in 1901. It was named in honor of Gustav Schleicher, a German immigrant and influential engineer in the construction of railroads in Texas. The county is situated in the Edwards Plateau region of West-Central Texas, covering an area of approximately 1,311 square miles. The county seat is Eldorado, founded in 1895 and chosen as the county seat due to its central location.

Before Schleicher County was established, the region was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, such as the Tonkawas, Comanches, and Lipan Apaches. Later, it became part of the Bexar Land District where it was shared between the territories of the state's various land grants. The region began to see an influx of settlers in the mid-to-late 1800s from Europe and other parts of the United States. Schleicher County experienced growth in ranching and farming, while smaller communities began to develop along the paths of the new transportation routes.

One fun fact about Schleicher County is that it is home to the X Bar Ranch, a historic ranch founded in 1897. The X Bar Ranch is now a popular destination for visitors who want to experience the beauty of the Texas Hill Country and participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, birdwatching, and stargazing.
