Brunswick County, located in the great state of Virginia, was officially established in 1720 from parts of Prince George and Surry Counties. It was named after the House of Brunswick, which was the German family that held the British throne during the early 18th Century, at the time of the county's formation.

Over the years, Brunswick County has been mainly supported by agriculture, with tobacco serving as its primary cash crop. During the colonial period, it was a significant hub for the fur trade. Later, railroads and the lumber industry played a key role in the county's development.

Brunswick County holds historical prominence as it had the Brunswick Academy, one of the earliest private schools in Virginia, established in 1816. During the Civil War, the county saw significant battles such as the Battle of Sappony Church.

A fun fact about Brunswick County is that it is known for the creation of a famous dish, Brunswick Stew. The dish is a tomato-based stew that traditionally features a combination of vegetables, chicken or other meats, originating in the early 19th century. Although other places like Georgia and North Carolina also claim to be the birthplace of the stew, Brunswick County, Virginia, remains proud of its culinary legacy.
