Dinwiddie County, located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, was established in 1752. It is part of the Petersburg, VA Metropolitan Statistical Area and was named in honor of Robert Dinwiddie, the Lieutenant Governor of Colonial Virginia from 1751 to 1758. The county covers 507 square miles and has a population of approximately 28,000 residents, according to the latest data.

Historically, Dinwiddie County played a significant role during the American Civil War. The Battle of Dinwiddie Court House took place in the county from March 29 to 31, 1865, as part of the Appomattox Campaign. This battle led to the eventual defeat of the Confederate Army and the end of the war. Additionally, Dinwiddie County is the location of the Siege of Petersburg, a series of battles from 1864 to 1865, which effectively cut off supplies to the Confederate Army, contributing to their eventual surrender.
