Fauquier County, located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, is a part of the Washington Metropolitan Area and the greater Piedmont region. Established in 1759, the county was named after Francis Fauquier, who served as the Lieutenant Governor of the Colony of Virginia from 1758 to 1768. The county was carved out of Prince William County, which was settled primarily by English people decades earlier in the early 18th century, in 1731.

Fauquier County's rich history connects it to several significant events throughout the development of the United States. During the American Revolutionary War, the county contributed a large number of troops as part of the Culpeper Minutemen. The county was also the site of several important events and battles during the American Civil War, including the Battle of Brandy Station and the First and Second Battles of Rappahannock Station.

Today, Fauquier County is known for its picturesque landscapes, rolling hills, equestrian culture, and numerous wineries. It hosts various annual events, such as the Virginia Gold Cup and the International Gold Cup horse races.

Fun Fact: Famous American folklore character John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, owned several plots of land in Fauquier County spread across more than 1,200 acres. These properties were purchased in the early 19th century and were situated along the Rappahannock River.
