Manassas Park is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, not a county. Located in the Northern Virginia region, it is part of the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The city was officially incorporated on August 24, 1957.

Manassas Park originally served as a railroad junction and played a pivotal role as a transportation hub during the Civil War. Due to its strategic location, close to the Manassas National Battlefield Park, the area witnessed the first and second battles of Bull Run (also known as the First and Second Manassas battles).

The city was primarily rural and sparsely populated until the mid-20th century when a suburban boom took place during the post-World War II era. The expansion of railways and highways connected Manassas Park to other Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. areas, allowing the city to become more industrialized and urban.

Fun Fact: Manassas Park is home to one of the oldest railroad buildings in the United States, the Manassas Park Train Depot. It was originally built in 1852 and has since been preserved and renovated into a significant historical and cultural attraction.
