Chelan County is located in the north-central part of the state of Washington, USA. The county was officially founded on March 13, 1899, when it was carved out from the larger Okanogan County. Chelan County occupies an area of approximately 2,994 square miles and serves as the gateway to the Cascade Mountains, with its borders extending to the central part of the state.

The name "Chelan" is derived from the indigenous Salish language, meaning "deep water," specifically referring to the 55-mile-long Lake Chelan that stretches through the area. The lake is the third deepest in the United States and the 29th deepest in the world, reaching a maximum depth of 1,486 feet.

The economy of Chelan County has evolved over time, initially relying on mining, agriculture, and forestry. Since then, the focus has shifted towards tourism, hydroelectric power production, agriculture, and more recently, technology industries. Its vast landscape is home to numerous recreational areas, such as the North Cascades National Park, the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, and the Echo Ridge Nordic Ski Area.

One fun fact about Chelan County is that it is home to Leavenworth, a small Bavarian-styled village in the heart of the Cascades. Leavenworth transformed itself from a struggling railroad town into a thriving tourist destination in the 1960s by adopting the traditional architecture and cultural festivals of a Bavarian Alpine village. As a result, the town has become a popular year-round attraction for visitors, offering various events and activities such as the Oktoberfest, the Christmas Lighting Festival, and outdoor recreational options like hiking and skiing.
