Franklin County is a county located in the southeastern part of the state of Washington, USA. Established on November 28, 1883, the county was named after Benjamin Franklin, the influential statesman, scientist, and founding father of the United States. With Pasco as its county seat, Franklin County is one of three that comprise the Tri-Cities metropolitan area, alongside Benton and Walla Walla counties.

The region has a rich indigenous history, as it was inhabited by Native American tribes for thousands of years before European settlers arrived in the area. The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation and the Yakama Nation are two tribes with strong connections to this land.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the area transformed into an agricultural hub due to its fertile soil and favorable climate, which continues to be a significant contributor to the local economy. The completion of the Hanford Irrigation Project in 1908 accelerated the county's growth by providing a reliable water supply for agriculture.

Franklin County also played a role in the Manhattan Project during World War II, as the Hanford Site, established in 1943 in neighboring Benton County, employed thousands of people from the surrounding areas, including Franklin County residents.

One fun fact about Franklin County is that it is home to the famous Boating Bash Demolition Derby, an annual event that has taken place in Mesa, Washington since 1984. During this event, participants race modified motorboats in a muddy demolition derby arena, entertaining spectators and showcasing the unique local culture.
