Lincoln County is located in the southwestern part of the great state of West Virginia, USA. It was established on February 23, 1867, during the Reconstruction Era, after the American Civil War. The county was named in honor of President Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, who led the nation through the Civil War.

The area that now makes up Lincoln County has a rich history even before its establishment. It was originally inhabited by Native American tribes like the Shawnee and Cherokee, who lived in this region for centuries before European settlers arrived. The first European exploration of the area occurred in 1671 when Batts and Fallam, two English fur traders, came in search of new territories.

During the 1800s, the area experienced significant growth due to its thriving timber and coal industries. It also became a key transportation hub with the development of the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Railway, which connected the county to the rest of the nation.

Today, Lincoln County has a population of approximately 20,000 residents and covers a total area of 439 square miles. Its county seat and largest city is Hamlin, named after American statesman and the 15th Vice President of the United States, Hannibal Hamlin.

One fun fact about Lincoln County is its annual celebration known as the Lincoln County Fair. This four-day event typically takes place in the summer and showcases a variety of local talents, agricultural exhibits, live music, and exciting carnival rides. The fair has been a popular community event since its inception in 1961 and continues to be a highlight for the residents of the county.
