Mineral County, located in the Eastern Panhandle region of the great state of West Virginia, was established on February 1, 1866. The county was created by an act of the West Virginia Legislature from parts of Hampshire County. It took its name from the rich mineral resources found within its boundaries. The county seat is located in Keyser, which was incorporated in the year 1913 and named after William Keyser, a prominent businessman of the time.

With a land area of approximately 329 square miles, Mineral County shares its borders with Allegany County, Maryland to the north, and Hardy and Hampshire counties in West Virginia to the south-east and south-west, respectively. The region has a rich heritage in the fields of transportation, agriculture, and industry, featuring historical landmarks such as the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.
