Morgan County, located in the Eastern Panhandle of the great state of West Virginia, was established on February 9, 1820. It was formed from parts of Berkeley and Hampshire Counties, both of which were parts of the state of Virginia at that time. The county was named in honor of General Daniel Morgan, a distinguished soldier and Congressman from the state of Virginia. Morgantown, West Virginia, also named after General Morgan, is not located in Morgan County.

Berkeley Springs, the county seat of Morgan County, is known for its warm mineral springs that have attracted visitors since colonial times, including prominent figures like George Washington. In fact, George Washington referred to the area as his "favorite resort" in his early days. The town of Berkeley Springs, originally called Bath, has grown over the years and become a popular tourist destination for relaxation, spas, and art.

One fun fact about Morgan County is its historical connection to the production of apple cider vinegar. Several vinegar distilleries operated in Morgan County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, earning the region a reputation for producing high-quality apple cider vinegar. Among the currently standing landmarks is the historic Sideling Hill Farm, which once housed a vinegar mill.
