Goshen County, established on February 9, 1911, is located in the southeastern part of the great state of Wyoming. The county was named after Goshen Hole, a valley in the area that was named by a fur trapper after the biblical Land of Goshen in Egypt. The county is the second smallest in Wyoming and has a land area of approximately 2,225 square miles.

Prior to the arrival of European settlers, the region was inhabited by Native American tribes, primarily the Cheyenne, Sioux, and Arapaho. The county played a significant role during the westward expansion of the United States in the 19th century, as it was traversed by several historic trails, such as the Oregon Trail, the Mormon Pioneer Trail, and the Pony Express route.

The city of Torrington serves as the county seat and is the largest city in Goshen County. The county's economy has historically been driven by agriculture, particularly in producing sugar beets, dry edible beans, and alfalfa.

Fun fact: In Goshen County, you can find the Oregon Trail Ruts State Historic Site, which showcases well-preserved wagon wheel ruts etched into sandstone by the pioneers who traveled the Oregon Trail. This site provides a fascinating glimpse into the hardships and determination of those early settlers as they ventured westward.
