Emmonak is a small village located on the west bank of the Yukon River in western Alaska. It is primarily inhabited by the Yup'ik people and has a population of around 800 people. Fishing and subsistence hunting are the primary sources of income for the residents. The village is only accessible by plane or boat and relies on barge shipments for supplies. Emmonak also has a unique tradition of producing intricately carved ivory and wood masks that are used in traditional dance performances. Additionally, the community is known for its annual spring festival, the Emmonak Messenger Feast.
