Southeast Fairbanks Borough is located in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Alaska. It was formed on April 1, 1990, when the former Fairbanks North Star Borough was divided into two separate entities, with Southeast Fairbanks Borough comprising the eastern portion.

The area that is now Southeast Fairbanks Borough has a rich history, with indigenous people living in the area for thousands of years before the arrival of Russian and European explorers in the 18th and 19th centuries. The borough's economy has traditionally been based on mining, with gold being the primary resource. The town of Eagle, located in the borough, was an important hub during the gold rush era and was the site of a major military outpost during World War II.

Southeast Fairbanks Borough is home to part of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS), one of the world's largest pipeline systems. The pipeline runs from Prudhoe Bay on the north coast of Alaska to Valdez on the south coast, a distance of over 800 miles. The pipeline was completed in 1977 and is a critical component of Alaska's economy, transporting oil from the state's North Slope to markets around the world. The pipeline is also an engineering marvel, as it must withstand extreme temperatures and harsh weather conditions. Visitors to Southeast Fairbanks Borough can see portions of the pipeline and learn about its history and operation at the TAPS Visitor Center in the town of Delta Junction.
