Coffee County is located in the southeastern region of the great state of Alabama. Named in honor of General John Coffee, a hero from the War of 1812, the county was established on December 29, 1841. It covers approximately 680 square miles, and its county seat is Elba, which became the seat in 1852.

Before the establishment of Coffee County, the area was inhabited by Native American tribes, primarily the Creek Indians. The territory was opened to white settlers after the Creek Indians' removal in the 1830s. Most of the early settlers in Coffee County were farmers who practiced subsistence agriculture, growing crops for their own use and raising livestock.

In the late 19th to early 20th centuries, Coffee County's economy was driven by the cultivation of cotton. While the cotton boll weevil infestation in the early 20th century led to an agricultural crisis, it resulted in the diversification of agriculture into peanut cultivation, livestock, and forestry.

Today, Coffee County is home to various industries like manufacturing, healthcare, education, and retail trade. Not to forget, tourism also plays a significant role, thanks to its rich history, beautiful landscapes, and various cultural events like the annual Boll Weevil Festival held in downtown Enterprise.

Fun Fact: Coffee County is home to the Boll Weevil Monument in the city of Enterprise. Built in 1919, it is the world's first and only monument dedicated to honoring an agricultural pest, the boll weevil, for promoting an agricultural shift from cotton monoculture and diversity in farming practices.
