Coosa County, located in the great state of Alabama, was created on December 18, 1832, and was formed from parts of Montgomery and Shelby Counties. The county is named after the Coosa River, which runs along its western boundary. Coosa is derived from the Native American Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa (ACT) language group, meaning "cane-brake" or "reed-brake."

The area comprising Coosa County was home to Native American tribes such as the Creek and the Muscogee people before European settlement. During the Creek War of 1813-1814, General Andrew Jackson fought against the Red Stick Creeks and eventually emerged as a national figure following his decisive victory at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend.

Throughout the 19th century, the economy of Coosa County was based on agriculture, mainly cotton cultivation. This was supported by a slave-based plantation system. After the Civil War and the end of slavery, the county's economy shifted to timber, and the population diminished due to the decline in agriculture.

Today, Coosa County is known for its natural resources, including the Coosa River and multiple reservoirs, such as Lake Mitchell, Lay Lake, and Lake Jordan. These waterways provide recreational opportunities, and the county's landscape is perfect for hunting and fishing.

Fun fact: Each year, Coosa County hosts the Central Alabama Electric Cooperative's Dam Bass Fishing Tournament, which attracts anglers from all around the region for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie.
