Geneva County is located in the southeastern region of the great state of Alabama. It was founded on December 26, 1868, and named after its county seat, Geneva, which in turn was named after Geneva, Switzerland, by Walter H. Younge, a native of Switzerland. The county is part of Alabama's Wiregrass region, which is named for a native grass that once covered the area.

Geneva County has a rich history, particularly during the early 20th century. The area witnessed the construction of many railroads, such as the AlabamaMidland Railway and the Central of Georgia Railway, which enabled businesses and industry to thrive in the region. Agriculture, particularly the cultivation of crops like cotton and peanuts, has always been a significant part of Geneva County's economy.

During the Great Depression, Geneva County faced economic challenges, much like the rest of the country. However, the people of the county demonstrated resilience and adaptation by diversifying their agricultural practices and focusing on soil conservation initiatives, which led to a growth in crops such as peanuts, corn, and soybeans.

One fun fact about Geneva County is that it is home to the "World's Smallest City Block" in the city of Dothan. This tiny block consists of a triangular traffic island and has been entered into the Guinness Book of World Records. It houses a small granite monument, a signpost with directional signs, and a flagpole.
