Hale County is situated in the western part of the great state of Alabama and can trace its origins back to the early 19th century. Established on January 30, 1867, the county was carved out of portions of Greene, Marengo, and Perry Counties and was named to honor Confederate Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Fowler Hale. Uniontown, a key center at the time, was designated as the county seat. However, in 1870, the seat was transferred to Greensboro, which remains the county seat to this day.

As for economic activities, Hale County was primarily an agricultural region, with cotton being the dominant crop. Over the years, the county experienced a transition towards a more diverse socioeconomic structure, but agriculture still plays an important role.

A fun fact about Hale County is that it is home to Safe House Black History Museum, located in Greensboro. The museum played a significant role in civil rights history in the 1960s. Martin Luther King Jr. once hid in this house from the Ku Klux Klan, and the site stands today as a testament to the fight for civil rights and African American history in both Hale County and the wider United States.
