Lauderdale County is located in the northwestern corner of the great state of Alabama, USA. Established on February 6, 1818, it was named in honor of Colonel James Lauderdale, a prominent figure in the War of 1812. Lauderdale County is part of the Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Area, also known as "The Shoals".

The area that is now Lauderdale County has a rich history dating back thousands of years, with Native American tribes such as the Chickasaw and Cherokee inhabiting the land long before European settlers arrived. In the early 19th century, European American settlers began arriving in the area, and the city of Florence was founded as the county seat in 1818 by Italian surveyor Ferdinand Sannoner.

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, agriculture played a significant role in the development of Lauderdale County. Cotton farming was the primary industry, along with other crops like corn and wheat. Additionally, the Tennessee River, which borders the county to the north, was vital for transportation and trade.

A notable aspect of Lauderdale County's history is the presence of the Muscle Shoals music scene. Starting in the 1960s, the area became a hub for recording artists, thanks to its unique sound and the talent of local musicians. The Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and FAME Studios produced hits for numerous iconic artists such as Aretha Franklin, The Rolling Stones, and Wilson Pickett, earning the Shoals the nickname "the Hit Recording Capital of the World".

Fun Fact: In Lauderdale County, you can find the only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house in Alabama. The Rosenbaum House, built in 1939, is currently a museum open for public tours, showcasing the famous architect's Usonian style of design.
