Lee County, located in the great state of Alabama, was established on December 5, 1866. The county originally formed from portions of Macon, Russell, Chambers, and Tallapoosa counties. Named in honor of General Robert E. Lee, a prominent Confederate military leader during the American Civil War, Lee County covers an area of approximately 616 square miles.

The county seat and largest city is Opelika, while Auburn, the largest city of Lee County, is home to Auburn University, one of Alabama's largest public institutions of higher learning. Throughout its history, the county has been primarily focused on agriculture, including the production of cotton, wheat, and corn, although in recent years, industries such as automotive manufacturing and technology have become increasingly important.

One fun fact about Lee County is that it hosts the Grand National Golf Course, a part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, which features 54 holes and is considered one of the premier public golf courses in the country.
