Talladega County, located in the eastern part of the great state of Alabama, was created on December 18, 1832, from land obtained through the Creek Indian Cession of 1832. It was named in honor of the Native American Taalw Amk (Talladega) town, which means "border town" in the Muscogee language. The county seat is Talladega.

During the early 19th century, settlers began to arrive in the area, drawn by its abundant farmland and natural resources. Agriculture played a significant role in the county's development, with cotton farming becoming the dominant industry.

During the Civil War, many men from Talladega County joined the Confederate Army. The county saw economic hardship following the war, but the emergence of the textile industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries helped revive its economy. Throughout the 20th century, the county diversified its industrial base to include manufacturing and automotive industries.

A fun fact about Talladega County is that it is home to the Talladega Superspeedway, one of the most famous NASCAR racetracks in the United States. The 2.66-mile-long track was opened in 1969 and has witnessed multiple records being set, including the fastest qualifying lap by Bill Elliott at a speed of 212.809 mph in 1987. The Superspeedway has a capacity of over 80,000 spectators and hosts a variety of racing events throughout the year.
