Arkansas County, located in the great state of Arkansas, was originally formed on December 13, 1813, making it one of the first five counties established in the Arkansas Territory. This region was inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Quapaw, also known as "downstream people," before being encountered by Europeans in the 17th century. French explorers Marquette and Joliet, in 1673, were the first Europeans to visit the area. Later, in 1682, LaSalle claimed the Arkansas region for France.

The county experienced growth throughout the 19th century, especially during the time of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 when the United States acquired the territory from France. The region's fertile soil and the Arkansas River's proximity made agriculture the primary economic activity, with cotton being the dominant crop.

The Arkansas Post, established in 1686 by Frenchman Henri De Tonti, became the first European settlement in the lower Mississippi River Valley, serving as a key trading post and eventually becoming the capital of the Arkansas Territory before the capital was moved to Little Rock in 1821.

A fun fact about Arkansas County is that it has two county seats, DeWitt and Stuttgart. This dual seat arrangement is due to the vast size of the county, which facilitated better access to government services for the populace living in different parts of the region. Stuttgart, one of the county seats, is notably known for hosting the annual "World's Championship Duck Calling Contest" held during the Wings Over the Prairie Festival, attracting thousands of visitors and highlighting the significance of duck hunting in Arkansas County.
