Baxter County, located in the great state of Arkansas, was established on March 24, 1873. The county was named in honor of Elisha Baxter, the 10th Governor of Arkansas. It is nestled in the north-central region of Arkansas, with its county seat being Mountain Home.

The area was initially inhabited by the Osage Indians, and later French traders and British settlers, who engaged in fur trading, arrived in the region. The Trail of Tears, a forced relocation of Native Americans, also passed through the area, with several Cherokee and Chickasaw resettlement camps established in the region.

Notable water bodies in the county include the White River and Bull Shoals Lake, as well as the Norfork River and Norfork Lake. The establishment of the Norfork Dam and the Bull Shoals Dam in the mid-20th century helped develop the region by aiding in flood control, hydroelectric power generation, and recreational opportunities.

A fun fact about Baxter County is that it is home to the Ozark National Forest, which offers numerous recreational opportunities, including fishing, boating, hiking, and camping. Additionally, Blanchard Springs Caverns, an impressive three-level cave system, is located within the forest and attracts thousands of tourists every year for its remarkable geological formations and natural beauty.
