Chicot County, located in the southeastern corner of the great state of Arkansas, was established on October 25, 1823, and was named after Point Chicot on the Mississippi River. The county seat is the city of Lake Village. The County's earliest inhabitants were Native American tribes like the Quapaw, Tunicas, and Koroas. Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto was possibly the first European to come into contact with the region's native people in 1542.

French and Spanish settlers began to populate the area in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, but the region was acquired by the United States as part of the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The influx of American settlers into Chicot County began in earnest in the early 19th century.

The economy of the county was driven primarily by agriculture, including cotton, corn, and soybean farming. The region's advantageous location along the Mississippi River made it an essential trade and transport hub. In the years following the Civil War, many freed slaves worked as sharecroppers, contributing to the growth of the African American population in the county.

One fun fact about Chicot County is that it's home to Lake Chicot, the largest oxbow lake in North America, and the largest natural lake in Arkansas. The lake offers various recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and bird watching, including the chance to spot a variety of migratory birds at the Lake Chicot State Park.
