Howard County, located in the great state of Arkansas, was established on April 17, 1873. The county was named after James Howard, a state senator during that time. It is situated in the southwestern part of the state and has Nashville as its county seat.

The area of present-day Howard County was first inhabited by Native American tribes like the Caddo and Quapaw before Europeans arrived in the region. During the early 19th century, a significant number of settlers started moving into the area, mainly due to its fertile land and abundant natural resources. The growth of the cotton industry and the arrival of the Cairo and Fulton Railroad in the 1850s boosted the economy and led to further development in the region.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Howard County's economy faced challenges due to the boll weevil infestation in cotton crops and a decline in timber production. However, the economic situation improved when the poultry industry began expanding in the region in the mid-20th century.

For a fun fact, Howard County is known for the Crater of Diamonds State Park, which is the only diamond mine open to the public in the entire world. Located near the town of Murfreesboro, this unique park allows visitors to search for diamonds and other precious stones in a 37-acre plowed field. If you're lucky enough to find any gems, you can keep them as souvenirs or have them professionally cut and set as jewelry.
