Lawrence County is located in the northeastern region of the great state of Arkansas. Established on January 15, 1815, it was named in honor of Captain James Lawrence, a naval officer who fought during the War of 1812. During its early years, the county served as a major gateway for settlers moving westward, largely due to its location on the Black and White rivers. Agriculturally rich, the region has historically been a hub for cotton, corn, and soybean farming.

The county seat, initially established in the town of Davidsonville, was later moved to Powhatan in 1837 and then to Walnut Ridge in 1962. Davidsonville was home to the first post office, courthouse, and land office in the Arkansas Territory. The town of Powhatan played a significant role during the steamboat era, thanks to its strategic location on the Black River; however, it lost its significance with the advent of railroads.

One fun fact about Lawrence County is its connection to the Beatles, the famous British rock band. In September 1964, the Beatles made an unplanned stop at the Walnut Ridge airport during their US tour, leaving a profound impact on the town. To commemorate this event, Walnut Ridge has organized the annual Beatles at the Ridge festival since 2011, drawing fans from all around the world. The town also features a Guitar Walk Park that exhibits guitar-shaped plaques with names of notable musicians who have contributed to the region's musical heritage.
