Marion County, located in the great state of Arkansas, was founded on September 25, 1836. Named after General Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox" of the American Revolutionary War, the county sits in the Ozark Mountains, presenting a picturesque landscape. Yellville serves as the county seat.

Marion County's rich history includes the Trail of Tears in the 1830s, where the forced relocation of Native American tribes crossed the region. The county flourished during the White River steamboat era in the 19th century, as the river served as the primary means of transportation for trade and commerce.

The area's mining boom in the late 19th and early 20th century brought prosperity to the region as zinc, lead, and silver were extracted. After the decline of the mining industry, the county's focus turned to agriculture, tourism, and the rise of the country music industry.

A fun fact about Marion County is that it hosts the annual Turkey Trot festival in Yellville, which began in 1946. The festival features a variety of events, food, music, and arts & crafts, as well as the famed "turkey drop," a tradition in which live turkeys were once released from a low-flying airplane during the festivities. However, the tradition has been revised in recent years due to animal welfare concerns.
