Nevada County is located in the southwestern part of the state of Arkansas; it was established on March 20, 1871. The county was named in honor of the neighboring state of Nevada due to the perceived similarities between their landscapes and resources.

Before its formation, the region was inhabited by the Caddo tribe and later European settlers arrived as part of the Arkansas territorial period in the early 1800s. The establishment and growth of Nevada County were greatly influenced by agriculture, particularly cotton farming. The county also saw the development of the lumber industry in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, which helped expand its economic base.

The county seat is Prescott, and other prominent towns include Emmet, Bluff City, and Rosston. Throughout Nevada County's history, the economy has been predominantly agricultural, with forest resources becoming increasingly important. Manufactured goods were produced in smaller, locally-owned units.

A fun fact about Nevada County is that it is home to the Crater of Diamonds State Park, a popular destination for tourists and residents alike. The Crater of Diamonds is the only diamond-producing site in the world where the public can search for diamonds and keep whatever they find. Since 1906, more than 75,000 diamonds have been discovered in the park.
