Pike County is located in the southwestern part of the great state of Arkansas. It was formed on November 1, 1833, from a portion of Clark and Hempstead Counties, making it the 25th county in Arkansas. The county was named in honor of Lieutenant Zebulon Montgomery Pike, an American soldier and explorer who is well-known for his expedition to explore the western part of the Louisiana Purchase.

The county seat of Pike County is Murfreesboro, a city that was initially named Montgomery but was later renamed to avoid confusion with Montgomery County. Apart from Murfreesboro, Pike County is home to several other towns, such as Antoine, Delight, Daisy, and Glenwood.

Pike County has a rich history, with early settlers arriving in the area around 1811, primarily attracted by its fertile soil, abundant timber, and ample water sources. Agriculture has long been an important aspect of the local economy, with cotton, corn, and later, livestock being the primary agricultural products. Timber has also played a significant role in the region's development, with the abundance of forests supporting logging and milling industries. In addition, the region has a history of mining, particularly for minerals like kaolin and novaculite.

A fun fact about Pike County is that it is home to the Crater of Diamonds State Park, which is the world's only public diamond-producing site, where visitors can dig for and keep any diamonds they find. The park was established in 1972 after the land was purchased by the state of Arkansas. Over the years, thousands of diamonds have been discovered here, with the largest being the "Uncle Sam" diamond, weighing in at a whopping 40.23 carats, found in 1924.
