Prairie County, located in the great state of Arkansas, was established in 1846, formed from Arkansas and Pulaski counties. It is situated in the central region of the state, with its county seat in two cities, Des Arc in the eastern part and DeValls Bluff in the southern section. The county encompasses 676.71 square miles of land and water.

Prairie County boasts fertile land with significant alluvial plains that make it suitable for agriculture, particularly rice and cotton production. The White River flows through the county, which played an essential role in the early trade and transportation system. The region witnessed significant growth during the steamboat era of the 19th century, with Des Arc being a prominent stop on the steamboat route along the river.

The Civil War disrupted life in Prairie County; however, multiple skirmishes took place within the region, and numerous men from the area served in Confederate forces. Despite that, the county managed to stabilize its economy and growth after the war-era.

One fun fact about Prairie County is its annual "Wing Ding" festival held in Des Arc. The festival celebrates the region's hunting heritage and showcases delicious chicken wings, a popular local favorite. The event also includes various activities, live music, and family-oriented entertainment, reflecting the unique charm and warmth of the Prairie County community.
