Randolph County is located in the northeastern part of the great state of Arkansas. Established on October 29, 1835, the county was named in honor of John Randolph of Roanoke, a prominent Virginia statesman and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. The county seat, Pocahontas, was also named after the famous Native American woman who was the daughter of Powhatan, the leader of an alliance of Algonquian-speaking tribes in 17th-century Tidewater, Virginia.

Randolph County's rich history includes Native American settlements dating back thousands of years, as evidenced by numerous archaeological sites in the area. Early European explorers such as Hernando de Soto passed through what would later become Arkansas in the mid-16th century, and by the early 1800s, trappers, hunters, and traders had established a presence in the region.

Prior to the Civil War, Randolph County's economy was largely dependent on agriculture, with cotton being the primary crop. The county also played a role in the conflict as several skirmishes and battles took place within its borders, including the Battle of Pocahontas in 1862.

Throughout its history, Randolph County has been bolstered by several industries, including timber, agriculture, and manufacturing. Its location on the Black River has also been key to its economic growth, serving as a vital transportation route.

One fun fact about Randolph County is that it is home to Arkansas's oldest courthouse, the Randolph County Courthouse, which was built in 1875. This historic structure still serves the community today and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
