Navajo County, located in the northeastern region of the great state of Arizona, was established on March 21, 1895, by the territorial legislature of Arizona. Its current county seat is Holbrook. Navajo County was originally a part of Apache County, which was formed in 1879. The county gets its name from the Navajo tribe, whose reservation extends from Arizona to Utah and New Mexico, occupying about two-thirds of the county's area.

This region boasts diverse landscapes, including high plateau, mountainous areas, and the Painted Desert, which features Petrified Forest National Park, known for its colorful, fossilized wood and stunning geological formations. The land within Navajo County is culturally rich, as it is home to both Navajo and Hopi tribes, as well as White Mountain Apache, Hualapai Tribal, and Zuni Tribal Lands. These tribal communities have deep-rooted histories and traditions that are still celebrated today.

One fun fact about Navajo County is that Holbrook, its county seat, is situated along the famous Route 66, a historic highway that stretches from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California. Holbrook is also home to the "Wigwam Motel," a quirky motel on Route 66 where each room is shaped like a giant teepee. This iconic motel was even featured in the 2006 Disney-Pixar movie "Cars."
