Adams County, located in the state of Colorado, was established on April 15, 1902, when it was carved out from a portion of Arapahoe County. Named in honor of Alva Adams, a two-time Governor of Colorado, Adams County is a part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood Metropolitan Area. Covering an area of about 1,184 square miles, its county seat is Brighton.

The region comprising Adams County was originally inhabited by various Native American tribes, such as the Arapaho and Cheyenne, before the arrival of European settlers. The establishment of gold mining camps and the construction of railroads in the 19th century attracted prospectors and pioneers to the area. The agricultural industry was also an essential part of its economic development, thanks to the fertile alluvial plains of the South Platte River.

Over time, Adams County grew and diversified its economy. Now it hosts a wide range of industries, including aerospace, manufacturing, healthcare, and retail. Today, the county is known for its excellent educational institutions, preserved open spaces like the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, and amenities for sports and recreation.

Fun Fact: The Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge in Adams County was once a former United States Army chemical weapons manufacturing facility. Since the decontamination procedures in the 1990s, over 330 species of wildlife have been reintroduced to the area, making it an essential haven for conservation and ecotourism.
