Clear Creek County is located in the central part of the state of Colorado, within the Rocky Mountains. Established in 1861 as one of the 17 original counties of the Colorado Territory, it is named after the pristine Clear Creek that runs through the county. With a rich history rooted in mining, the area was home to the Colorado Gold Rush in the late 1850s, during which gold was discovered at what is now called Idaho Spring. This attracted thousands of prospectors to the region.

In the 1870s, silver was discovered in the county, injecting new life into the mining industry. The establishment of railways, such as the Colorado Central Railroad, further facilitated the mining boom, connecting Clear Creek County's mining districts to nearby cities like Denver, paving the way for a vibrant community.

The county, with a current population of around 9,000, is home to several scenic towns including Idaho Springs, Georgetown, and Silver Plume. The area's abundant natural beauty, combined with the rich cultural heritage, makes it a popular destination for tourists.

Fun fact: The Georgetown Loop Railroad is a popular tourist attraction in Clear Creek County. The historic narrow-gauge railroad, which runs through the picturesque mountains from Georgetown to Silver Plume, was completed in 1884 and features a corkscrew route that was an engineering marvel in its time. The railroad today provides visitors with a fantastic glimpse into the past and offers a unique and exhilarating train ride experience.
