Dolores County is located in the great state of Colorado, United States. Established on February 19, 1881, the county got its name from the Dolores River, which runs through the region. The river itself was named by Spanish explorers in the 18th century as "Rio de Nuestra Seora de los Dolores," which translates to "River of Our Lady of Sorrows."

Covering an area of approximately 1,068 square miles, Dolores County is predominantly rural with its economy largely based on agriculture, ranching, and mining. The county seat, Dove Creek, is known as the "Pinto Bean Capital of the World" due to the area's significant production of pinto beans.

One interesting fun fact about Dolores County is that it is home to the Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, which contains more than 6,000 ancient Puebloan archaeological sites, including Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings, Native American historical sites, and the Lowry Pueblo, a national historic landmark that dates back to around 1060 AD. This makes Dolores County not only a culturally rich destination for history enthusiasts, but also a place that holds significant value to the heritage and history of indigenous people in the United States.
