Montrose County is located in the western part of the great state of Colorado. Named after the city of Montrose, it was established on February 11, 1883, as part of the Colorado Territory. The county was named after a character in the Sir Walter Scott's novel, "The Legend of Montrose."

Montrose County is rich in history, with Native American tribes such as the Ute people originally occupying the region.
