Park County, in the great state of Colorado, was established on November 19, 1861, as one of the original 17 counties of the Colorado Territory. It is located in the central part of the state, covering an area of 2,211 square miles. The county, named after the large geographic region called the South Park, features stunning landscapes and is part of the Mosquito Range.

Park County has a rich history rooted in mining, railroads, and ranching. During the late 1800s, the area became well-known due to gold and silver mining, attracting miners and settlers from around the world. The towns of Fairplay, Alma, Jefferson, and Como all played essential roles in the development of mining and the railroad industry in Colorado. Ranching also flourished in the early days of Park County, with cattle and sheep ranches dotted across the South Park valley.
