Teller County, located in the great state of Colorado, has a rich historical background. It was founded on March 23, 1899, and named in honor of United States Senator Henry M. Teller, who was instrumental in Colorado achieving statehood. Teller County is situated within the Rocky Mountains and covers an area of approximately 559 square miles. Its county seat is located in the city of Cripple Creek.

In the late 19th century, the area was thriving due to the gold mining industry. Gold was first discovered in Teller County in 1890 by Bob Womack, sparking the infamous Cripple Creek Gold Rush. Over the next few years, the population in the county increased rapidly, with many people settling in the towns of Cripple Creek, Victor, and Woodland Park. By the end of the gold rush, it is believed that the mines in the region had produced over 22 million ounces of gold.

Through the years, Teller County has evolved into an area with a strong focus on tourism, recreation, and outdoor activities. It is now known for its unique wildlife, picturesque landscapes, and numerous historical sites that showcase the county's mining past.

Fun fact: Alongside its rich gold-mining history, Teller County is home to the highest operating steam locomotive in the United States, the Cripple Creek and Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad. This tourist railroad operates between the towns of Cripple Creek and Victor, providing passengers with incredible views of the surrounding region as they travel through history.
