Middlesex County, located in the great state of Connecticut, was established in May 1785. The county derives its name from Middlesex, England, as many early settlers migrated from there. Middlesex County is situated in the south-central part of Connecticut, along the Connecticut River, covering an area of approximately 369 square miles.

The county has a rich historical background with numerous towns, such as Middletown, Cromwell, East Haddam, and Old Saybrook, among others. Middletown was first established in 1650 and eventually became the seat of Middlesex County. In the 18th and early 19th centuries, Middletown flourished as a key port and commercial center, primarily involved in the shipping of West Indies goods, domestic products, and other items up and down the Connecticut River.

Middlesex County played a significant role during the American Revolution, as various industries in the area helped supply the war effort. For instance, Middletown was a major production center for muskets, while Durham provided supplies and food for George Washington's army. Additionally, East Haddam was a hub for shipbuilding; many ships were built there to support privateers during the war.

A fun fact about Middlesex County is that it is home to the Goodspeed Opera House, a historic and renowned theater located in East Haddam. The theater, which opened its doors in 1876, is known for producing some of the finest musicals in the country and has sent multiple productions to Broadway, earning a reputation as a breeding ground for upcoming Broadway hits.
