Kent County is located in the central part of the great state of Delaware and serves as one of its three counties. Founded in 1680, Kent County holds historical significance because it was one of the original 12 counties established in the Delaware Colony by William Penn. The county was initially known as St. Jones County, named after the St. Jones River, but was later renamed in honor of the English county of Kent in 1682.

Dover, the capital city of Delaware, is located in Kent County and became the capital in 1777, during the American Revolution. It replaced New Castle as the capital because of its strategic locationfarther from the coast and less susceptible to British attack. The county played a vital role in the early history of the United States, with several important events taking place in the region.

One fun fact about Kent County is the existence of the Dover Air Force Base, one of the busiest military aerial ports in the United States. Established in 1941, the base has a long history of involvement in major military operations, such as the Berlin Airlift, the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, and various Gulf Wars. The Dover Air Force Base is also home to the Charles C. Carson Center for Mortuary Affairs, the largest mortuary in the Department of Defense, which serves as the entry point for American military personnel killed in overseas operations.

In addition to its historical and military importance, Kent County features lush landscapes, numerous outdoor recreational activities, thriving agricultural communities, and a rich cultural heritage, making it a unique and fascinating part of the United States.
