Baker County is a rural county located in the northeastern part of the state of Florida. It was established on February 8th, 1861, and named after James McNair Baker, a prominent jurist and Confederate senator. The county seat is Macclenny, which is also the largest city in the area. Baker County's primary industries include agriculture, forestry, and mining, with a population of around 28,000 residents as of the 2020 Census.

The region was originally inhabited by Native American tribes, including the Timucua, who lived in the area for thousands of years before the arrival of European settlers. The first Europeans to explore the region were the Spanish in the 16th century. Eventually, British colonizers gained control of Florida in 1763, and the territory was traded back to Spain after the American Revolutionary War before finally becoming part of the United States in 1819.

Baker County has experienced significant growth since its establishment, largely driven by the development of the railroad in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The area's economy has traditionally relied on agriculture, with cotton, corn, and other crops being of prime importance. Today, the county's economy is still based on agricultural production, forestry, and small businesses.

Fun Fact: Baker County is home to the Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park, which is the site of Florida's largest Civil War battle. The Battle of Olustee took place on February 20, 1864, and the park now hosts annual reenactments, attracting thousands of visitors each year.
